AFI's 100 Greatest Movies
Most of the films on the American Film
Institute's lists of
the 100 Greatest Movies are included in the
University
of Missouri's film & video collection. In 1997, AFI asked more than 1,500 leaders in the
American film community--screenwriters, directors, actors, producers, cinematographers, editors,
executives, film historians, critics, and others in Hollywood--to choose from a list of 400
nominated films compiled by AFI and select the 100 greatest American movies from the first 100
years of American cinema (1896-1996). Ten years later, with films from ten more years of
American cinema, AFI re-polled the experts.
