Student Labs / Language Resource Laboratory
The ASC Language Resource Laboratory is a digital media resource facility for language learning. Located on the lower level of
the Arts & Science Building , the Lab is a support service for language faculty members who wish to include a digital
classroom component in their courses or to augment instruction with CD-ROM or video components. The Lab is open seventy hours
a week for students engaged in language learning activities.
Services provided include:
- Two classrooms with 27 "thin client" computers. Instructors meet with
language
students in a computer lab setting using
student-provided materials and/or web-based materials. These rooms are scheduled for class meetings during most of the
week,
but are available for ad hoc language activities when classes are not using them.
- One room with 16 "thin client" computers is available on a first come, first served
basis for use by
students enrolled in
language courses. Ten video carrels are also available for viewing NTSC DVD or video cassette programs for enrichment and independent study
(movies, video magazines, and tapes on reserve) or satellite programs.
- Satellite reception in Spanish (Mizzou Cable
Channel 36: Univision ), French (Channel 37: TV5 ), German
(Channel 34: Deutsche Welle ), and Chinese (Channel 35: CCTV5 ).
- Video playback for international faculty and students of multi-standard tapes
(PAL, SECAM, etc.).
- Hosting of foreign language placement testing during Summer Welcome and before the start of the fall and spring semesters.
- Space for modern language students and instructors to meet in small groups.
